One of the loveliest shore towns is Lavallette, New Jersey, located on the Barnegat Peninsula that separates Barnegat Bay from the Atlantic Ocean in the central seashore region of New Jersey, and home to another of the boardwalks that grace the New Jersey shoreline.
Located in Ocean County, Lavallette was incorporated in 1887 from portions of Dover Township (now Toms River Township), and it is home to 2,665 residents (2000 Census), on about a square mile of the barrier island. Lavallette has great beauty in all directions on the bay as well as on the ocean, and its non-commercial boardwalk stretches for 28 blocks. It is ideal for walkers, whether they’re “power” or simply strollers.
With eight protected ocean beaches perfect for swimming, and beaches designated for surfing and surf fishing, Lavallette also has two beaches on Barnegat Bay that offer calmer bay waters for swimmers.
Lavallette is also home to a waterfront park that’s ideal for family picnics. It also features two piers perfect for fishing and crabbing, and two launch ramps for boats, and the beaches have lifeguards. Because of strategically located sandbars off the Atlantic shore, it’s also a good spot for surfers. Another great spot is the picturesque gazebo on the bay - the best place to watch the setting sun.
Vacationers and day-trippers discover playgrounds for children, plus tennis, bocce, shuffleboard, a basketball court and a roller blade rink are also available. Barnegat Bay is also a great place to go boating, sailing, windsurfing, and to participate in other water sports.
During the summer season teen and adult dances are scheduled, and there are band concerts and Movies on the Bay at the Centennial Gazebo and Gardens at Philadelphia Avenue and the Bay Front.
Lavallette features shops and restaurants with casual dining to serve visitors and locals alike. There are also department stores, specialty and gift shops for folks who love to shop. To sum it up, you’ll like it in lovely Lavallette, another great stop along the New Jersey coast.
You’ll enjoy this family-friendly New Jersey shore community and its scenic boardwalk and beaches. Surfing and fishing are restricted to designated areas only. Lavallette has motels, condos and other properties for weekly rentals. The town is also a short drive from Ocean County’s many resort area attractions.
Beach badges are required during the summer season. Stop at the Beach Badge office in the Municipal Complex for badges and details on the many attractions and activities available.
